Hello!

I don't know why anybody haven't checked if NeoMule works at Win9x... verwirrt

I have been using NeoMule 3.0 for a long time (WinMe) and I wanted to upgrade it to the newer version... I have checked different versions of NeoMule 4.xx (the newest too) and none of them works on my PC.
After start I get beautiful message:

"DBGHLP.DLL too old. Please upgrade it no newer version."

...and then next box with text "Program raised error and will be terminated.... blah blah"
I had checked it with different versions of DBGHLP - from Win XP, 2000, 2k3 and no result...

I was really annoyed............ geschockt

And - what was amazing - all newest versions of original eMule clients was working fine on my PC !!

...and..... Today I have thought what are the differences between eMule and Neo.....
.... it was my first idea.... original mule... don't has such a great splash screen !!!!

Yes...this is a problem of the little splash screen !!! ...
Somebody who has written code of it haven't thought that 9x don't handle Alpha Blending (I know it, because I'm sometimes writing in Delphi)

I'd be really happy if somebody will fix it..... It's really easy... just check OS version and add a simple condition before fading loop.

Now it's olny one way to run Neo at 9x:
In preferences.ini at [eMule] section type:
Splashscreen=0
before start...

But i don't know why it works only in version 4.02 and 4.11 ...
Ver. 4.20 don't works... I think that there are similar problems - Neo uses some procedures which aren't handled in 9x. (maybe connected with system DLLs).

And it's another problem but smaller... on 9x Neo don't display any icons on toolbar and images... I think that it is connected with a color palette...

The splash screen bug should be fixed in the next release.

To run NeoMule 4.x at WinMe (form binaries):
- extract ZIP file with binaries somewhere
- download unicows.dll & copy it to dir with emule.exe or WINDOWS\SYSTEM
- open [eMule dir]\config\preferences.ini , insert "Splashscreen=0" & save
- find any skin in google, because Neo 4.x don't display any images on buttons/bars & etc. Devil 19
- run emule.exe........
- .... press "OK", when the annoying popup "DBGHLP.DLL too old. Please upgrade it no newer version..." appears
- ... and ENJOY

I've been using Neo 4.25 for a few weeks...
.... and here are some another conclusions:


Neo 4.25 has really huge memory reqiurements...

With the default configuration it have been constantly causing memory overload...... 30-60 mins of usage... and effective shell hangs / terminations & etc.
(for example Windows doesn't display images properly, has problems with fonts... and is getting slower and slower...)

It's impossible to use it on older PC without changing settings!
(I have tested it on Celeron 466 with 192 MB RAM)


One of the causes of memory problem is still advanced & colorful GUI
Neo starts to work stable only after turning all graphic bonuses off...


Options > Neo > GUI settings > XP Menu Style > Show Sidebar NO
Options > Neo > GUI settings > XP Menu Style > Show Background NO
Options > Neo > GUI settings > MiniMule settings > Show MiniMule background NO


...and what after disabling only 3 checkboxes ?

The start popup "DBGHLP.DLL too old. Please upgrade it no newer version..." has disapperart !!!
